DIY PHOTO FRAME/ GIRAFFES

Tray or a photo frame? This fun DIY will transform your everyday tray in a nice photo frame. A perfect a simple project to create with kids. The perfect idea for a handmade gift for your friend, you can use fun picture of you or your friend, pets’ photos will be super cute too! SUPPLIES Print your favorite picture in a size that fits your tray size. We chose a funny photo of three giraffes ​​to wish a happy birthday. Before printing it we transformed the photo into black and white. If your printer only prints in black and white you don’t need to do anything. As a first step we need to cut out the decorated paper to cover the bottom of the tray. Place the My Style tray on the decorated paper and trace the outline of the bottom with the pencil, then cut it out. This will be the easiest way to cut the paper in the right size without measuring. Using double-sided tape, stick the decorated paper to the bottom of the tray. Crop the photo following the outline of the figure, also cut out all the spaces. Then make a horizontal cut so as to cut the image in two parts and separate it. Glue the two parts of the photo onto the white cardboard with the glue stick. Press well to avoid air bubbles and let dry perfectly. Cut the photo out again along the outline. The cardboard will have made it more resistant. Cut strips of white cardstock and fold them in half to create a tab. They will help you glue the photograph to the tray/frame. Glue one part of the tab to the back of the photos, using the glue stick, then apply a piece of double-sided tape to the other part of the tab. Glue the two parts of the photo inside and outside the My Style tray, making sure the tabs adhere well with the double-sided tape. Cut out two hat shapes from colored cardboard and glue them onto the giraffes’ heads with a glue stick. Complete the hats by gluing a colored pom pom with a drop of hot glue. Thread a piece of string around the third giraffe’s neck, then glue the two ends to the back of the “Happy Birthday” banner with hot glue. This will create a very funny optical effect!

LEMON TRAY

SUPPLIES Round wooden cutting board Fine grain sandpaper Primer White and yellow acrylic paints Paint brushes Transparent finishing varnish Handles Screws Drill Screwdriver HOW TO First of all prepare the wood quickly removing surface imperfection using sandpaper. Always sand in the direction of the wood grain, never across it. It’s time to apply the primer using a paint brush. Let it dry well, according to the instructions on the tin. This will prepare the wooden surface for the paint. Now paint the cutting board with yellow acrylic and let it dry perfectly. Make sure you paint straight down the flat edges too. It’s time to start painting our lemon. Paint a slightly smaller white circle (about 2cm edge) and let it dry well. Now draw the lemon segments and color them with yellow acrylic paint using a pointed brush. Don’t worry about being too precise, in real lemons every segment is different! Let it dry. Now that the slice is complete, pass a coat of transparent finishing varnish, in this way the tray will be more protected, and you also will be able to clean it with a damp cloth. Let the transparent finishing varnish dry very well. Position the handles, for a correct balance they should be positioned halfway around the circle, then make a mark with a pencil in correspondence with the screw holes. Make holes for the screws using the drill. Secure the handles by tightening very well the screws on the back using a screwdriver. It was easy, isn’t it? You can create other serving trays inspired by your favorite Summer fruits like watermelon, kiwi, grapefruit… the more colorful the better!

DISCO BALL VASE DIY

It’s a real thing on social media: the disco ball mood adds some fun to every room! Make your own disco ball vase transforming a basic plastic vase. SUPPLIES Imagine drawing a cross in the center of the vase. Mark the points where the ideal cross intersects the circumference, these will be the points where you will have to make the holes. Make 4 holes around the edge of the plastic jar, with an awl. If possible, use an awl that makes holes the same size as your mirror tiles. Start by covering the jar with self-adhesive mirror tiles. You can buy ready-made disco ball mirror strips. This will be an exercise in patience and precision. Use it as a moment of mindfulness! Be precise, the result will be better if the small mirror tiles are as regular and close as possible. Be careful, leave the holes made with the awl free.
